El Museo Nacional de lo que queda se concentra en prestarle atención a rastros históricos. En Puerto Rico existe la sensación de vivir en un presente constante, el cual se podría articular, niega la posibilidad de la comprensión de nuestros pasados. Frente a esta condición de narrativa desarticulada, no proponemos una historia totalizante, ni mucho menos una postura nostálgica de lo que se ha perdido. Partimos desde lecturas emancipatorias de rastros, grietas y fisuras, en fin, frente a la aparente carencia, proponemos una constelación de presencias.
Comenzamos este ejercicio enfocándonos, junto al etnopaleobotánico Jaime Pagán Jiménez, en el Marunguey. Esta zamia endémica, es una de la plantas más antiguas en el Caribe, testigo del devenir local y custodia de nuestros bosques. Haremos recorridos en el bosque, tendremos un vivero, una estación sonora, así como encuentros alrededor del Marunguey y sus parientes caribeños. A partir de esta planta nos acercaremos a otros tiempos históricos y a otras formas de habitar y pensar nuestro archipiélago.

El Museo Nacional de lo que queda, focuses on paying attention to historical traces. In Puerto Rico there is often a sense of living in a constant present which, one could argue, denies the possibility of understanding our pasts. Within this condition of disarticulated narrative, we do not propose a totalizing history, nor a nostalgic position toward what has been lost. Instead, we begin from emancipatory readings of traces, cracks, and fissures; in short, in the face of apparent absence, we propose a constellation of presences.
We begin this exercise by focusing, together with ethnopaleobotanist Jaime Pagán Jiménez, on the Marunguey. This endemic zamia is one of the oldest plants in the Caribbean—witness to the region’s unfolding and a guardian of our forests. We will organize walks in the forest, establish a nursery, and create a sound station, as well as host gatherings around the Marunguey and its Caribbean relatives. From this plant we will turn our attention to other historical times and to different ways of inhabiting and thinking about our archipelago.
